HELL FOR MINOR GIRLS IN KERALA

KOCHI: Kerala is no longer safe for children as there is an alarming rise in the number of crimes against them, including rape of minor girls.   The  Paravoor, Kothamangalm and Varapuzha sex scams have exposed the rotten pit into which Kerala society has fallen.
According to the latest figures released by the Kerala Police,  174 cases of rape of the minor girls were registered with the police until June this year.  This is considerably higher  than the number registered for the same period in the last four years. For the 12-month period in 2010, the number of such cases was 208 and in 2009 it was 235. This year, the number is bound to go up as the Kothamangalam and Varapuzha cases were reported only after June.Kerala Women’s Commission Chairperson D Sreedevi said that the crimes against minor girls reported with the panel have increased this year. “The basic reason for this is the misuse of modern technology now. Another reason is that culprits escape with the help of top-level influence. Reports of girls being raped by their fathers are going up. Girls are not safe even with their parents,” said Sreedevi. In 2011, the number of crimes against children reported across the state is 698 which is way ahead of the figures reported in 2010 and 2009. In 2009 the number of criminal cases against children was 596 and in 2009 it was 589.
